Meet Dr. Stephaney S. Morrison

Dr. Stephaney S. Morrison, Ph.D., LPC, NCC, is a counselor educator, licensed professional
counselor, author, minister, and international consultant whose work sits at the intersection of
trauma-informed care, relational systems, identity development, and gospel-rooted healing.
Her scholarship and practice integrate clinical expertise, multicultural understanding,
theological reflection, and lived experience—grounded in the conviction that healing addresses the
whole person: identity, formation, restoration, and release. Dr. Morrison creates carefully held
spaces where truth can be named, stories can be witnessed with dignity, and healing can unfold
at a human pace.

This is sacred witnessing, and it changes everything.

Expertise and Experience

Dr. Morrison brings more than two decades of experience spanning K–12 education, church and ministry leadership, clinical practice, counselor education, higher education leadership, professional leadership, and international consultation. Her work bridges scholarship and practice while helping individuals, organizations, churches, and communities navigate trauma, identity, relationships, and spiritual formation with wisdom and compassion.

She began her career as a school counselor in Jamaica—a foundation that continues to shape her work today. Throughout her career, she has served in faculty and higher education leadership roles, including program director and associate dean, at CACREP-accredited institutions. She has contributed to accreditation, curriculum, and program development, served in professional and advisory leadership roles, and is currently an associate professor in the CACREP-accredited Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at the University of the Cumberlands. Alongside her academic work, she has provided leadership, training, and consultation within churches and ministry settings, equipping leaders to integrate psychological insights with spiritual formation in ways that are both thoughtful and ethically grounded. 

Her work extends across the United States, the Caribbean, and Africa through scholarship, consultation, leadership, and collaborative partnerships. Her scholarship contributes to emerging frameworks in relational trauma, identity disruption, and system-maintained relational dynamics—grounded in the Association for Spiritual, Ethical, and Religious Values in Counseling (ASERVIC) competencies and peer-reviewed scholarship.

Scholarly Work and Conference Presentations

Dr. Morrison’s peer-reviewed scholarship, keynote presentations, and conference work focus on three interconnected areas: school-based family counseling with immigrant and refugee populations, trauma-informed practice with diverse, multicultural communities, and the integration of faith and spirituality in counseling and clinical supervision.

Her work has been accepted for publication in peer-reviewed journals and for presentation at major national, international, state, and regional professional counseling conferences, including ACA, ACES, ASERVIC, Law & Ethics, and NBCC, as well as at educational conferences such as AERA.

Dr. Morrison’s scholarship reflects a commitment to helping clinicians, educators, ministry leaders, and organizations better understand the relational, emotional, and spiritual experiences that are often deeply felt but difficult to name.
